Very cool! I've heard him talk about this car umteen times. I actually had a friend in high school back in '76 who had one of these. We built it one summer with his dad who was really into Z cars.  It was almost exact sytle ( flares, lowered, roll bar...) wise but it was street legal. It was bright porsche yellow and had an airdam in the front. Everybody else had muscle cars back then so his was really unique. Thanks for sharing!

One of my friends had a version of this Datsun in HO scale.  It was a favorite when we set up the slot car track.

Slot cars...Man how did those fade into obscurity??? They where such a blast. That was a whole culture in itself when I was a kid.

These 510/Bluebirds had a really tuneable engine and were really popular for club racing in period- you could get a lot of horsepower out of them.

I remember seeing these cars race, they were very impressive despite the unusual sound they made (compared to the Grand National cars I was used to hearing). My first brand new car was a VW Fox, and I think part of its appeal was that it looked so much like these early Datsuns.

I got excited when I saw this Datsun because, when I was a kid, we had this (similar) car running on an HO race track.
